Volkswagen of America, Inc. introduced the Basecamp™ accessory line for Atlas models. Available individually, or as a set in the Basecamp styling package, custom body cladding elements create a more rugged overland look. Slated for Spring of 2020, the accessory line also includes unique off-road inspired wheels, that when equipped with all-terrain tires, bolster the versatility of the already capable Atlas.
"Our goal is to provide customers with an extensive catalogue of accessory options that cater to their desires for distinctive styling and functionality," said Hein Schafer, Senior Vice President of Product Marketing and Strategy at Volkswagen of America. "The public interest and customer enthusiasm sparked by the Atlas Basecamp concept created a strong business case to further explore off-road-themed components for production."
The Basecamp accessory line was developed from design elements of the Volkswagen Atlas Basecamp concept, unveiled at the 2019 New York International Auto Show. Produced by Air Design, the Basecamp styling package for Atlas models includes a two-tone satin silver and textured anthracite front bumper guard, textured anthracite fender flares with integrated splash guards, satin silver side door rocker panels, and satin silver rear valance with trailer hitch access. (The styling package is not recommended for models equipped without a trailer hitch and not compatible with R-Line trims). This kit comes with exclusive front quarter-panel-mounted Basecamp badges that are not offered separately.
The accessory line also includes a production version of the unique 17-inch Traverse MX wheels produced specifically for Volkswagen by fifteen52. These wheels were first seen on the Atlas Basecamp concept vehicle and are being offered in two colors; frosted graphite and radiant silver. Volkswagen of America recommends 245/70R17 all-terrain tires to complement the design.
