Fascinating and dynamic styling, extravagant presence and modern luxury define the character of the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M. BMW M GmbH has now decided to sharpen the profile of its high-performance vehicles in the luxury segment of the Sports Activity Vehicle. Coupe. with significant changes in these key areas. The BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M are now available exclusively in the Competition version - with a new V8 engine with 48V technology for a maximum output of 460 kW/625 hp, exterior improvements to the and iDrive control of the latest Generation control system as well as a curved BMW display and the BMW 8 control system. The electrification of the drive train and the upgrade of the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic make the new BMW X5 M Competition and the new BMW X6 M Competition even more responsive to power supply. The new styling accents reinforce their aura of unmistakable high performance.Digital technology not only offers extremely intuitive and multimodal operation, but also contributes to significant progress in the field of automated driving and parking systems.
With the latest drive generation for the new BMW X5 M Competition and the new BMW X6 M Competition, BMW M GmbH is driving electrification forward. In addition to the new V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, 48V technology is also finding its way into the brand's high-performance models. The thrust of the electric motor and high-revving V8 engine takes the performance that M vehicles are known for to an even more exciting level. The electric motor and power electronics are integrated into the compact housing of the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and deliver up to 9 kW/12 hp more power and 200 Nm of torque. The result is significantly faster power delivery, allowing the drive unit to respond to every movement of the accelerator pedal. The power build-up then continues evenly in the upper engine speed range. For the driver, this means extremely lively and confident handling, both when cruising and when accelerating from the middle range. If the electric motor is used to support the internal combustion engine under continuous load, the internal combustion engine can be operated in an optimal load window in many situations in order to increase its efficiency.
The newly developed combustion engine combines the classic high-speed profile with the latest M TwinPower Turbo technology. The 4.4-liter V8 engine in the new BMW X5 M Competition and in the new BMW X6 M Competition impresses with even more precise response and increased efficiency. In addition to the transverse exhaust manifold, the engine now also has an improved crankshaft drive, an improved turbocharger - mounted close to the exhaust manifold and with an electrically operated wastegate - as well as a new air intake duct, a new vane oil pump and a weight-optimized plastic oil pan. Powertrain emissions are further improved by an optimized variable impactor oil separation process. In addition to two turbochargers with indirect intercooling arranged between the cylinder banks, the M TwinPower Turbo technology of the V8 also includes High Precision Direct Injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve control and the engine. The latest generation of power units can be recognized visually by the new engine cover with red graphics and colored M logo, which is also optionally available in carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) with a visible fiber structure.
The core of the M-specific operating/command concept is the M Setup menu. The setup button on the center console provides direct access to the setup options for the engine, chassis, steering, brakes and M xDrive. This allows the driver to adapt every detail of the overall vehicle configuration to the individual driving situation and preferences. Two individually configured tuning variants can be permanently saved with the preferred settings for engine sound, DSC, automatic start-stop and shift characteristics of the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission. The desired overall vehicle configuration can then be activated at any time by pressing one of the two M buttons on the steering wheel. The driver's preferred settings can be saved and assigned to one of the two M buttons once configured in the menus of the new BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition.
